Bateman receives TVA Power Play Association Scholarship

Duck River Electric is honored to announce Jaycie Bateman as a recipient of the 2024 TVA Power Play Scholarship and Johnny Hayes Memorial Scholarship.

The TVA Power Play Scholarships are awarded to high school seniors who excel academically, are committed to community service, and are the children or dependents of local power distributor employees. This year, 40 scholarships were awarded to qualifying applicants.

The Johnny Hayes Memorial Scholarship goes to a student who consistently demonstrates a strong commitment to academic excellence, leadership, and community service. It honors the late TVA Director Johnny Hayes, who launched the scholarship program.

Jaycie is the daughter of Jenny Edmondson and stepdaughter of Christian Edmondson. Christian is the field engineer at DREMC’s Shelbyville office.

Jaycie graduates with honors from The Webb School this month and plans to enroll at Vanderbilt University this fall.

Recipients are chosen by an eight-member selection team of educators from colleges and universities in the seven states of the Tennessee Valley. They are selected based on academic achievement, standardized test scores, leadership qualities, letters of recommendation, and written essays. The funds are raised through Power Play Scholarship Association membership fees and contributions from TVA and vendors.

Since the program was established in 1995, hundreds of scholarships have been awarded to students across the Tennessee Valley.

On behalf of DREMC, we congratulate you, Jaycie, for these prestigious achievements!
