Morris appointed to fill vacant Zone 1 director term

Sammy Morris has been appointed by the Duck River Electric Membership Corporation board of directors to fulfill the remaining term for Zone 1 previously held by Mike England, who passed away in Nov. 2024.

Morris is a lifelong resident of the New Union community in Coffee County who received a bachelor of science degree in plant and soil science from Middle Tennessee State University.

He is a full-time, third-generation farmer and has served on the Board of Zoning and Appeals for Coffee County and the Farm Service Agency County Committee.

He dedicated 27 years as a firefighter for the City of Manchester, where he served as a captain before retiring. He remains committed to his community while currently serving as chief of the New Union Volunteer Fire Department.

In addition, Morris has supported Duck River Electric for many years by serving as a member of DREMC’s Nominating Committee.

Morris is a member of the New Union Church of Christ. He and his wife Amala have been married for 28 years and have three children: Abagayle, Ashlynn, and Samuel.

“We are pleased to welcome Sammy to the Duck River Electric board,” said DREMC Board Chairman Anthony Kimbrough. “His dedication to his community and the cooperative is evidence of his commitment to serve others. Along with his experiences caring for the family farm and decades of caring for his neighbors through public service, Sammy’s background will be invaluable as we continue to enhance the services Duck River Electric provides and meet the needs of our members.”

Morris will finish Mike England’s three-year term as an appointed director pending board candidate recommendation by DREMC’s Nominating Committee.
