Vicki Stevens-Valentine, Tennessee Valley Authority Program Manager, visited the fifth-grade students at East Coffee Elementary in Manchester as part of the TVA Science Kids World Water Monitoring Challenge. Using local water samples from Normandy Lake at Barton Springs and the Duck River at Old Stone Fort, the students conducted experiments using the scientific method to determine the water quality. Students also determined if the water could support aquatic life.

After the students tested the water’s oxygen levels, pH levels, and turbidity, the data confirmed the water quality at both sites as excellent.

Duck River Electric Membership Corporation District Manager Michael Millraney and Member Relations Specialist Claire Sellers attended the challenge.

“TVA plays such a vital role in our communities,” says Millraney. “I love being able to tell how Duck River EMC works with TVA to power our member’s homes.”
